Surya
Henna Powder is a henna based hair
colour that is 100% natural and vegetal
that treats the hair while it colours.
Henna contains a tannin called lawsone
that provides the gold, reddish and
copper hues characteristic of the
plant. Lawsone has a natural affinity
for the hair which allows this natural
dye to penetrate the superficial layers
of the hair cuticles and deposit on the
strands, creating a film that
strengthens and gives
lustre.
On
damaged hair, this effect is very
helpful because when hair becomes
damaged by chemical processes, it has
many "imperfections" or "holes" along
the strands. Since the cuticles of
these strands remain open, they are
also more fragile and less shiny. With
Surya Henna Powder application, the
henna fills all these "blank" spaces,
giving the hair a beautiful shiny
glow.
Natural hair
colouring and nourishing treatment for the hair
unlike other henna brands on the
market
100% natural
hair colouring made up of plants only; no
chemicals or additives of any kind
Guaranteed
to colour grey hair in one easy
application
Semi-permanent
hair colour - washes out of the hair after
about 20 - 30 shampoos
Surya Henna
Powder is the highest quality henna on the
market; because of this, our consumers enjoy
hair colour without the risk of the "henna
disasters" that have occurred with other brands.
Our henna can be used on badly damaged hair
(even from over-colouring with chemicals) but a
shorter amount of time is recommended due to how
easily the colour adheres.
Can be applied
immediately after chemical processes without
waiting. Whereas most henna brands have
contraindications for chemically processed hair
or suggested time intervals, we actually
recommend our henna for these situations with no
time intervals required.
Surya uses
advanced European technology in the
manufacturing of these products
Excellent for
consumers with certain chemical sensitivities
and pregnant women wishing to avoid traditional
hair colouring chemicals. [We suggest
consulting with a doctor first when using our
products and all consumers should conduct a
patch test to determine
allergies.]
Different from
hair preparations that use metallic salts,
ammonia, PPD, peroxide and other synthetic
ingredients, Surya Henna powder does not damage
or change the structure of the hair
Dermatologically
tested
Henna is a
traditional plant that has been used for
thousands of years both as a dye and a
conditioner giving the hair a smooth, healthy
texture
Plant
ingredients are from the highest quality sources
in India
Henna is the
Arabic name of the plant whose botanical name is
Lawsonia inermis. There are many stories
about the origins of henna with its historical
use noted in India, North Africa and various
regions of the Middle East. References describe
the use of henna in religious rites and
festivals as far back as 9,000 years ago. Henna
has historically been used to enhance beauty
through use in skin drawings, colouring the hair
and providing treatment to the scalp and to the
strand of the hair.
Lawsone is a
tannin that resides in the leaves of the henna
plant when it has reached maturity. The leaves
are collected, dried and triturated into a
greenish powder. The chlorophyll in the leaves
accounts for this hue. Lawsone's natural dye has
an affinity to the hair. It has the unique
property of binding to the keratin scales of the
cuticle, allowing the tannins to migrate into
the outer layers of the strand. It acts as a
sealant to the damaged parts of the hair
strands, making them more uniform, thus allowing
the strands to better reflect light. Henna
remains on the hair for a considerable period of
time (several weeks), but because it does not
penetrate into the cortex of the strand, it is
considered temporary hair colour.
True Henna,
Lawsonia inermis, comes in only one
colour, reddish brown. The shade or hue provided
by the henna powder is determined by the age of
the plant, growing region and the unique
seasonal fingerprint that nature provides. The
leaves from immature plants provide neutral
henna, as the tannins are not yet
present.
Besides being a
natural dye, henna offers other benefits.
Historically, the plant has also been used by
indigenous cultures to strengthen hair, reduce
dandruff and hair fall. It is considered
astringent and tonifies and exfoliates the
scalp. Henna can also be instrumental in
correcting oily scalp conditions.
Henna or
Lawsonia inermis has been considered safe
for use on the hair.
Surya
Henna Powder Ingredients
Henna
(Lawsonia inermis) - Used as a
copperish colourant for the nails, skin and
hair, henna has an antimicrobial and antifungal
action. Its active principle is the colourant
lawsone, which has a great affinity for the
hair. Henna forms a protective layer on each
strand of hair.
Amla(Phylanthus emblica) --Very rich in
vitamin C, this fruit has tannins that help
compose the colour of the powder and is
traditionally used as treatment for hair and
scalp problems.
Shikakai
(Acacia conccina) - Very rich in
tannins and low pH, Shikakai, the Indian "fruit
for the hair", allows for the closing of the
hair layers. It is rich in soft saponins that
clean the hair without opening the layers. Helps
prevent dandruff
Indigo(Indigofera tinctoria) - Known for its
colouring properties in India, Indigo gives the
hair bluish tonalities.
Aritha(Terminalia bellerica) - This fruit is
rich in saponins that softly wash the hair. Also
functions as an astringent and
bactericide.
In addition, we
add a sachet of Honey in the packageforuse as an antioxidant and
moisturizer.

orange, red to reddish brown range. Surya
carefully blends combinations of plants to
achieve the range of colours available.'Black'
henna is blended with indigo and is only used as
a neutral conditioning product suitable to dark

that henna cannot be used on straightened,

after the use of these methods. Is this
true?
A. Surya
Henna can be used in all of these circumstances;
however, discoloured hair should be reviewed on

colour correction. However, Surya Henna is so
beneficial for your hair that it can be applied
as a conditioner after any chemical
treatment.
Q. Can I
mix Surya Henna Powder with Henna

A. Yes,

apply; henna works well to highlight grey giving
a natural range of shades when the hair is less
than 40% grey. If more coverage is required, we
suggest using Surya Henna Cream.
Q. Does
Surya Henna fully cover grey hair? White
hair?
A. Yes,
Surya Henna covers grey in one application. If
you are more than 40% grey or white, you should
consider henna cream for best
results.
Q. Why do
some people say that their hair turned orange or
other undesirable colours after using henna
products?
A. If the
colour begins to take on undesirable red tones
after a number of washes, it is because the
natural red tones in the henna are able to
adhere to the hair shaft more efficiently than
the blue tones. It is recommended to retouch the
colour with a fresh application to address this
concern.
Q. Do you
recommend henna for people with
allergies?
A.
Sensitivities are individual in nature. We
suggest you test a small area of the skin 24
hours before use of the product, especially if
you have a history of allergy
concerns.
Q. Which
colour of Surya Henna would you suggest to avoid
reddish tones in blonde hair?
A. We
would suggest golden and blonde colours with a
short application time.
Q. When is
it recommended to use Surya Henna Strawberry
Blonde?
A. While it
should be remembered that blonde shades of henna
do not lighten the hair, we suggest using this
shade to
1.) colour white
hairs that were naturally dark,
2.) after
highlighting to slightly darken bleached
highlighted streaks
3.) to darken
slightly bleached white hair and
4.) when colours
close to Strawberry Blonde are wanted in white
hair.
Q. Do all
the shades of Surya Henna colour white
hairs?
A. Yes,
Surya Henna Powder does cover white. However,
when white hair makes up more than 40%, it is
advised to use Surya Henna Cream. The neutral
powder and black henna powder do not tint or
colour the hair in any way. These products were
created to condition, providing luster and
hydration for the hair.
Q. I have
some balding going on, will Surya Henna
help?
A.
Balding can occur for various reasons, in most
cases henna will not resolve balding, but it can
help maintain the health of remaining hair and
will support a healthy scalp.
Q. Does
Surya Henna stain skin or
clothing?
A. It is
a natural dye so it is advised to use gloves and
apron when applying henna powder. To prevent
colouring the skin around the hairline, use a
light application of an oily moisturizer to
prevent any stain. If you have any residual
colouring of the skin, use soap and water and a
gentle exfoliation with cloth or loofa to
remove.
Q. Does
Surya Henna colour very dark
hair?
A. Surya
Henna used on black or dark brown hair will not
produce any colour variation with the exception
of slight red or purple highlights. However it
will cause any grey hairs to be shaded in a
reddish brown tone depending on the colour
chosen.
Q. Is
Surya Henna safe to use when
pregnant?
A. Yes, our
henna can be used safely during pregnancy
because it does not contain heavy metals or
chemicals of any kind. However, because women
have more possibility for sensitivities during
pregnancy, it is advisable to perform a
sensitivity test 24 hours prior to using Surya
Henna on the hair.
